Fairport Harbor, Ohio can be described as part small town America and part beach town. The smalltown of Fairport Harbor (Pop. 3,108) will astound you with it's old time charm, fun filled beach adventures, amazing dinning and family atmosphere.
Downtown Fairport has many great things to offer. The little town has a vibrant shopping and dining district.
On a beautiful day leave your room at TheSuites and walk over to JulBeans Coffee and Crepes for a fresh Crepe in the morning. Take a stroll down High Street stopping by the little shoppes along the way to the beach, for your day of fun and relaxation. Perhaps take a bike ride on the Lakefront Bikeway. After a day of adventure stop by the Pompadour for an elegant dinner on the town. Then off to The Lyric Bistro, for an evening of live music & entertainment, enjoy their cocktails and sandwiches. How about something sweet from the Fairport Harbor Creamery, you'll need to be 21+ for a boozy ice cream. Not in the mood for a sit down restaurant, Fairport is also home to Rego's Brickhouse Pizza. Rego's, is not in the Downtown area, however it's only a few blocks away makes it easy for a quick pick up for dinner at the beach.
Ending your day with a stay in the heart of Downtown. TheSuites@Fairport-Harbor.com are by far the most ideal place to stay in the area. They host 9 full size suites for the best beach vacations or a quick romantic getaway.
The thing to do in Fairport is to visit it's amazing beach. The Fairport Harbor Lakefront Beach is part of Lake MetroParks System. Open from 6:00am to 11:00pm. You won't find a cleaner more relaxing beach. Fairport Beach has been featured in Coastal Living's Ultimate Summer list for "The best beaches in America" Fairport Beach won the title as The Best Beach in Ohio.
Lakefront Beach offers a wide range of programs including Adapted Programming that is intended to help individuals with disabilities. The Harbor View Boardwalk offers seniors and others that have mobility issues the ability to enjoy the beach and the beautiful sunsets that Lakefront beach has to offer. Lakefront Beach is 21 acers and has plenty of amenities including electricity, paved trails, picnic areas and a playground. They also have grills if you prefer to cookout. In-season The beach offers lifeguards, Concessions, and rinsing stations. You may also rent Kayaks and Canoes at the Beach!
Watch the boats go in and out of the harbor from the beach, build sand castles, make memories and swim the day away, before taking in the beautiful sunsets of Lake Erie. At Fairport's Lakefront Beach you will find something for everyone.
The MetroParks plan to extend The Lakefront Metroparks Trail. The first phase of connecting Fairport Harbor's Lakefront Beach to Painesville Township Park has begun.
Founded in 1812 and know as Grandon in 1836 the town was incorporated and the name was change to Fairport. The name Fairport Harbor was adopted in 1959.
Fairport was major port and bustling commercial district in the 1930's with a population exceeding 5,000. At the time this placed Fairport Harbor as one of the largest communities in the region.
Today Fairport Harbor is a quiet community located at the mouth of the Grand River. Fairport is home to two light houses The Grand River Light House and The Fairport Harbor Breakwater Light House. In 1925 the Grand River Light House was replaced with The Fairport Harbor West Breakwater Light House in Painesville Township which is located at the month of the Grand River directly across the river from Fairport harbor.
The Grand River Light house is now The Fairport Harbor Marine Museum. The light house offers tours and hosts special events. You'll have to wait late till late May to visit since it is closed in the off-season. Please check out their website for more information for hours, tours and events.
The harbor industries in Fairport flourished in the early 1900's and an influx of Hungarian, Slovaks, and Finns settled in the Area. Fairport is home to The Finnish Heritage Museum which is located in the Downtown area open on Saturdays from 10:00am-3:00pm. Fairport Is also home to the Hungarian Culture Club.
